The Great Sphinx of Giza is made from a solid piece of Sandstone. It is as tall as a 6th story building, and as long as a 747 jet (240 feet x 66 feet). The Ancient
Egyptians of the Old Kingdom built the Spinx during the reign of the pharaoh Khafra (c. 2558–2532 BC), and is supposed to have his face. Historians are not sure what the function of The Sphinx is, with ideas ranging from just simply a pharaoh's monument, to more outlandish claims that a great library lies underneath it.There's been repairs made to the Spinx over the years, as neglect and human abuses. The Sphinx's nose was supposedly shot off by Napoleon's soldiers, with muskets and cannon fire.
